SriSaaradaa vaatsalya deepikaa :—

Aarsha Saaradaa. ~ Saareeraka Upanishad — 9.

Mantra : 20.

Saattvika, Raajasa, Taamasa lakshanaani trayah

gunaah || 20 ||

Saattvika, Raajasa and Taamasa are the three qualities (ingrained in the creation of the universe).

Mantra : 21.

Ahimsaa Satyam Asteya Brahmacharyaaparigrahaah |

Akrodhah Gurususrooshaa Souchah Santoshah Aarjavam||

Amaanitvam Adambhitvam Aastikatvam Ahimsrataa |

Etay sarvagunaah jneyaah Saattvikatva viseshatah ||21||

Non-violence, Truthfulness, Non-stealing, Celibacy, Non-acceptance (of any worldly things), Absence of Anger, Service to the Guru(observing all instructions received from the Guru), Internal and External Purity, Sense of Contentment, Rectitude (in every aspect of conducting life), Sense of Modesty, Honesty and Non-hypocrisy, Belief in the Vedas and the God, Incorruptibility are to be understood as the main Saattvika qualities.

Mantra : 22.

Aham kartaasmyaham bhoktaasmyaham vaktaabhimaanavaan |

Etay gunaah Raajasasya prochyantay brahmavittamaih || 22 ||

The Knowers of the Brahman state that the qualities of those men who are Raajasic in nature are as under:
“I am the doer (or performer of all actions),
I am the enjoyer (of fruits of all actions), I am the
speaker, I am a person of self-esteem”(and so on).

Mantra : 23.

Nidraalasye moha raagau maithunam
chouryamayva cha |
Etay gunaah Taamasasya prochyantay
brahma vaadibhih || 23 ||

Sleep, Idleness, Delusion/Infatuation, Deep Desire, Copulation, Stealing and so on are said to be Taamasic qualities by the Teachers of the Knowledge of the Brahman.

Mantra : 24.

Oordhvay Saattvikah Madhye Raajasah

Adhastaat Taamasah iti ||24 ||

Saatvik persons dwell in the upper realm, Raajasik persons reside in the middle domain and the Taamasik persons remain in the lower region.

Mantra : 25.

Samyak Jnaanam Saattvikam, Dharma Jnaanam

Raajasam, Timira andham Taamasam iti || 25 ||

Absolute knowledge (of the Brahman) is Saattvika. Relative knowledge of Righteousness is Raajasa. Nescience is Taamasa.

    Saariraka Upanishad is is dealing with very subtle
    elements which present in the creation of Universe.
    The three qualities namely Sattva RajaStamo Gunaas
    and the nature and character of the possessors of
    those qualities are very well stated.
    We find these three qualities in Bhakti also.
