THEOSONICS – Dynamics of Divine Name – Part 2

I draw the attention of the readers of this feature to the substance of the following verse to “Sanaatana Saaradaa ~ 6”. The verse is:-

“Praanaayaamaih daheddoshaan
Dhaaranaabhischa kilbisham |
Pratyaahaarena samskaaraan
Dhyaanenaaneeswaraan gunaan” ||

All these fully efficacious yogic fruits or consequences are obtainable by the totally dedicated devotees of the one’s own chosen deity simply through incessantly remembering the name of the deity with unconditional and utmost love. Now, we analyse this process to understand how it works in terms of the yogic science.

In the above verse, four yogic practices which are capable of generating four concomitant yogic results are explained. They are as under:

1. Praanaayaama results in exterminating impurities of the yogic student, when he attains perfection in the practice of praanaayaama.

2. Dhaaranaa helps an ideal yogic student in eradicating his accumulated sins through various births.

3. Pratyaahaara is the ability to withdraw all the sensory faculties from every slightest possibility of externalisation. It’s one among the toughest of
all accomplishments of a yogi.

4. Dhyaanaa is one among the best triumphs of a yogi which can annihilate the entire non-divine ideation-process of him to purify his inner field of emotions.

We know that a true devotee has these four glorious divine components with him which can bring about what all is needed for spiritual illumination.
1. Naama of the Deity by constantly remembering which the devotee can achieve what all is assured of by ‘Praanaayaama’.
2. Remembering Roopa or the form of the Deity gives rise to the fruits of ‘Dhaarana’.
3. Rembering of Guna or the Divine qualities of the Deity substitutes the yogic procedure of ‘Pratyaahaara’.
4. Rembering the Leelaas or the Divine exploits of the Deity can replace the yogic effort of ‘Dhyaana’.

So, what a yogi attains through persistent hard work is accomplished by a fully dedicated devotee through a homely endeavour.

Excellent explanation. The comparison between a Yogi and a true devotee is very well depicted. As you said, one need not struggle hard to do yogic practice if he sincerly dedicates himself to devotion.

Very encouraging to know of the importance and fruits of naama and roopa of the devatamoorthy babai… Can this be understood that the journey from remembering the naama of the deity to realizing or remembering his leelas is interconnected? One leads to another?
