The Advent of the Supreme Incarnation – Sri Ramakrishna Guru Deva

Fundamentally man is an emotional entity being guided by an inherent intelligence. The individuality of man is circumscribed by the demands of his familial and social allegiances. Though the biological instincts of man ascribe a certain bestial approximation to him, his mental and intellectual propensities impart a unique, distinctive character to his existence. Right from the inception of his existence on this planet, the mystery of his own life and the riddle of the world around him, have been a constant source of curiosity that initiated his learning process and challenge that lent enormous opportunity to secure and sharpen his overall skills, for him.

While his physical needs gave rise to his achievements in the fields of agriculture, industry and technology, his emotional and intellectual impulses found expression in the domains of arts, crafts and sciences.
But his pursuits in the realm of religion and philosophy assume a unique feature to co-exist with all of these and at times, to precede them all too, in order to provide a code of ethical conduct for all his mental and physical endeavours. So, in this manner, religion and philosophy accorded a new dimension to human life in terms of universal human ethics and a transcendental sense of fulfillment. Apart from the three dimensions of biological, emotional and intellectual life of man, there has been the fourth dimension which can be termed as spirituality. Of course, religion and philosophy are the only sources of fulfillment that can meet the demands of the non-material quests of man.

Man can not be construed as a superior animal nor an inferior angel. Man acquires a unique virtue of being a man only. Man’s immense search to understand not only the mystery of the physical universe
but also the enigma of his own existence and his relationship with the universe led him to hold a peep into the nature of the inscrutable and unmanifest source of all the creation. Sorrows and sufferings, afflictions and ailments, disorders and death, and above all the unforeseen and the uncontrollable ravages of the nature around him brought about enormous misery into human life in terms of terrible sense of insecurity and uncertainty. The unremitting thirst for knowledge on one hand and the fear of the unknown on the other motivated man to think in terms of the Super-human controlling principle which ultimately emerged into various expressions of the Godhead which in turn gave birth to different religions and philosophies.

There are as many gods, religions and philosophies as there are races, civilizations, cultures and geographical regions. In spite of all this humanly irreconcilable peripheral heterogeneity, the divine principle of the under-lying homogeneity has to be brought out in its all-time fullest glory.  At such a unique historical juncture of enormous complexity of Twentieth Century, to unify all the multiple outward conflicts and contradictions, there descended the Supreme IncarnationAvataara Varishtha“, the Incarnation of all incarnationsSri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Gurudeva” with His Divine Consort, “Sri Saaradaadevi“.
